Postdoctoral Fellow,  Nano-Engineered Photon Detectors

Available Immediately

Position’s Main Responsibilities:
To work on new research frontiers in Nano-photodetectors and Artificial Retina. Cleanroom fabrication, material characterization, device test, device analysis, and dissemination of the results in top journals and conferences in the field.

The Resources You Will Be Using:
Our group is one of the main users of Northwestern University’s cleanroom (https://www.nufab.northwestern.edu/ ) and characterization (http://www.nuance.northwestern.edu/ ). In addition, we are using some of the best tools in the world accessible through Argonne National Laboratory’s Center for Nanoscale Materials (https://www.anl.gov/cnm ) and Pritzker Nanofabrication Facility (https://pnf.uchicago.edu/ ). Our group’s access to these facilities presents a unique opportunity for you to learn a wide variety of advanced semiconductor fabrication processes using top-class tools.

What Will Make You Shine as a Candidate:
1- Cleanroom skill and experience with common tools (e.g. e-beam evaporation, ion sputtering, PECVD, photolithography, e-beam lithography, reactive ion etching, and atomic layer deposition).
2- Measurement skill, especially high-speed measurement (several GHz), and low-noise measurement.
3- Simulation skills using photonics and optoelectronic modeling tools (e.g. Silvaco, Lumerical, and Zemax).
4- The ability to efficiently communicate and work with others, carefully document the data, and formulate and execute manuscript preparation.

What Extra Skills Would be Good:
Prior experience with fabrication and characterization of photon detectors. Prior experience with fabrication and characterization of memristors. Coding skills, especially with Python, and programming with MATLAB.

What the Location, and Northwestern University Offer:
You will be working at the Evanston Campus of Northwestern University, which is about 30 minutes north of Chicago and has been consistently ranked at the top 30 places to live in the US.

Northwestern University offers excellent benefits for its postdocs (https://www.northwestern.edu/hr/benefits/work-life/view-benefits-by-audience.html#Postdocs).

Qualified applicants can expect to receive significantly higher salaries than Northwestern’s minimum postdoc salary, depending on their experiences and skills.

What to Do If Interested:
